That’s all I can say about the poll so far.  Went out for a beautiful ski and was treated to an exquisite sunset, skied out in the dark.  Was happy as could be and now this.  If my hot air doesn’t get a good push past the ‘evil organizations’ it might result in my being forced to think up two or three excruciatingly painful topics to post about next week.  Get those votes in!

FGC- we don’t need no stinkin’ anti-lobbying rule  ;-)

FGC 20:34 You gotta know when to fold-em!!!

I didn’t!!! Went down with the ship in 2002 after those terrific gains. Thought I’d learned my lesson. Sold at the highs in 2006 and booked lotsa profits…..paid lotsa taxes….. then bought back in to make a killing in 2007 and instead got killed in 2008 due to my overconfidence, margin, and no plan or solid stops. Let’s just say I got a million dollar education, but think I now know when to walk away and know when to run.

No margin, solid plan, solid stops, solid companies, no kidding. The problem is that I believe that due to the ETF’s we will never have the pleasure of experiencing those gains again. The sector is sewed up tight. That is not to say there will be no gains… there will be gains but only modest ones since the entire sector, now including the juniors with GDXJ, is under the full control of TPTB.

 But I’ll give you my numbers for the next LT top. When we get there you better know when to fold-em, know when to walk away and know when to run. Those that stay at the table will get the same education I did.

Gold $1,535…. Silver $29.50…. HUI 821… XAU 321…. all in 2010. My best wishes to all honest people, and may the crooks get their just rewards too. ;o)

Illusion @ 17:21………..

PMF @ 3:42 am. It would be disrepectful of me NOT to respond to such a well thought-out proposition………

by illusion @ 17:21 pm.

Firstly, I can hardly believe how much I am in agreement with you this year GR. Who changed ? Or was it the Blue Moon : - ) I don’t mind.

—————————————–

Illusion, it is sad to say, but what I wrote is precisely what I have always written………the last writ was simply a long-term overview bent in the direction of Another’s words with my interpretation of it.  I prefaced the writ by thanking you for a chance to address the issues since over the last couple of years everything I have written has been attacked by subterfuge by being mis-stated, re-arranged, mis-quoted, etc.  The overview I wrote can be further broken down into smaller parts that fit the larger picture, but into parts that are more useful for investment purposes.  This is what I mean when I say that “everything I write has to be accepted in the context of my overall description- but it is too long to repeat each time.”  Thus, I laid out all of this in word form with associated charts for “Mr Indian”, but he simply rejected the whole thing once it was put into more concrete description with charts for visuals………………..as all ”opinion.”……though he admitted that he did not even read it……….while he cited many opinions across a broad range of different directions as “facts.”  A second time I presented all of the information in trying to come to some level playing field with another poster who seemed to try to ponder it all for awhile, before he “completely rejected the whole thing.”  Then, as things played out he tried to claim that I was wrong as the whole of the immediate-term played out almost exactly as I had suggested the past cycle history would.

I agree that we have never disagreed……………………………

Bottom line is that what I posted to you is, I believe, a good part of the long-term cycle, though you have motivated me to place it in the context of the very long-term nature of a constantly declining currency program that until now is periodically “re-set.”  The long-term cycle continues to play out almost perfectly as long as one is wary to the need to correct the charts for the ”condition of the currency” in each cycle.  Afterall, the condition of the currency is one of two major factors since each item is denominated in a “variably priced” local currency in the fraction “item/currency.”  The current condition or state of the currency/ currencies is one of currency inflation which makes the more exact comparison, the late 70’s to today since in both periods currency inflation dominates the charts, dominates with price inflation, etc.  Ie., the ” price answer” to a math fraction will almost always rise if the denominator number is constantly and aggressively falling.   Yet, if one strips out the Dollar inflation, ,then one can create a very, very long-term chart showing that all of the cycles are practical twins, or fractals, through history.   That is both in price and it is in time.  Thus, today also relates rather precisely to the 1929 era, if the charts are corrected as explained.  Armstrong has portrayed the fractal nature correctly mathematically, though he completely failed to strip out the changes in the “condition of the Dollar” during different time-frames………the “second variable.”  That is a major mistake in terms of “scientific method”- leaving a second variable free to ravage an experiment…………………precisely as Mr. Indian claimed the high road of “scientific protocol” while missing the second variable present.  This is why I was adamant in my postings to him since this is of vital importance to provide a clear view of the present, and a clear reference point to history.

=============================

I’d say you have nailed it as far as Another’s ‘burnings’ go. The paper trading of gold (and probably oil, silver, commodities) has never been a place I would put money, because intuitively there is no real value there. Just a lotto, much like FX. And unbacked fait currencies to a lesser degree. There is some value there, simply because the majority consciousness believes there is, and so it is !! (Some) pollys of course know differently and know how to exploit the common misconception. But while one entity will trade a piece of fait for hard goods or service, the fait has value. I like your concept of periodic re-sets of currencies with ‘gold backing’. Rinse and repeat. Those guys are good at their job !!

———————–

~ ~ ~  Yes………..yes……….the markets trade not on “value”, but on the perception of value.  This is the real reason that Greeny and the rest are constantly stating things totally out of context to the truth.  Many market participants will factor untruths like the “strong dollar policy”………….the “ability to remove the stimulus even while the need to inflate further grows”…………etc.  They have the ability to “show inflation when they want” or they can “show deflation when they want”- all because they have control over “pricing systems” such as the tainted CPI, the taint’ed Dollar index priced against other variable currencies, etc.  Every investor is constantly looking at fundamentals that are really floating sets of smoke while Darth Vader controls the smoke machine.  In order to gain control for ourselves, we need to better understand all of this smoke; but if we do, then we can waft our way through well enough.

For instance, the deflation scare was the result of DV “marking the derivatives to market”; yet the re-bound has largely been due to the fact that once they gained the right from Congress to print the Dollar into oblivion through monetization of the currency process, they immediately again started marking the derivatives back up to un-reality.  The point here to understand, IMO, is that their plan is to continue to use ever-more massive Dollar (and other currency) inflation to skate through to the point where the price of Gold rises parabolicly to balance the budgets of each country in its own currency.  This is what they have done repeatedly through history in the fiat cycle, and we are not that far from the real vertical climb of Gold (Silver and other commodities).  As Gold climbs the parabola, and as the value of the Dollar falls- the derivatives like many debts will basically be inflated away to the point where they will simply be monetized under the table.  The currency will be “re-set” at a new lower value and backed by “value” as JS suggests.  It has been “rinse and repeat” throughout history.  Darth Vader’s best choice to keep their own game going is/ was to inflate the debt away………….and though I have never seen it suggested anywhere before in public- I think the same is true of the derivative rot that underlies the system since it is also denomiated in fiat Dollars.

To aid this crazy scheme (that looks like it will work since we are getting so late in the cycle), all of the banks and other entities holding the putrid derivatives are being allowed to show false profits off of the upward false revaluations in the worthless derivatives AND to sell large amounts of stock to the public.  The money from those stock sales can be used to replace the fake derivative assets as the derivative asset losses are written off, or they may even allow themselves tax credits.  Thus, the increased stock floats constantly are diluting shareholders in the financial sector.

===========================

Cutting to ‘the fear’. To me a fear is a talisman of where an entity needs to evolve. A fear is something to be faced, and so often when we do face it we find the horrific beast that so threatened us was in fact an illusion…… “…….. then one day we all laugh at ourselves.” Exactly. And wasn’t your daughter clever to seek advice form you !!

——————

My daughter and I both trust and love each other.  That is one of the few things a parent can ever hope for in life.

=====================

Now that we have sorted the ‘burnings” out, I have a question for you, and the forum of course:

During WWII hundreds of thousands of US GI’s were stationed in NZ, training prior to attacks on Japanese held islands (’over fed, over paid, and over here’ the disgrunted kiwi blokes were heard to mutter more than a few times). The thing that struck my mother and aunts was how WHITE the American’s teeth were. They still talk about it !!

whitening is commonplace now, but I don’t believe it was then. I have postulated NZer’s drank tea, while the Americans drank coffee (predominantly) and that tea may cause more staining - making local; teeth more yellow, rather than the Americans being ‘more white’. Any theories?

————————–

Illusion, I simply cannot answer this question, but I do think you are on the right track.  When using certain of the newer white composite materials for restoring teeth I have only on a few occasions had a problem with “staining”, but in each case we were able to solve the problem by the patient moving to a different brand of tea.  We have never had a problem with coffee.  Thus, I’d look to the chemical differences between tea and coffee in terms of both the intrinsic and the extrinsic staining process on teeth as a real possibility.

And, thank you for your kind words and comments.

Greetings, WANKA.

It’s a pleasant Saturday evening here and after Iamgold, Silver Wheaton and Seabridge doing well in our family portfolio since the start of 2010 (plus the price of our physical silver and gold doing their best to hold onto their present levels), all seems reason to be content. I did learn something new this afternoon though, in relation to your 0:52, 6 Jan 2010 and 0:42, 9 Jan 2010 postings about me.
What I learned is that gosh, darn, you sure get dragged down from your position of superiority and arrogance if you try to install, to building code, as I did this afternoon, some travertine stone tiles to make a nice joint with the carpet surrounding our fireplace insert. It was a challenge to do it to building code and to make it match family aesthetic standards, but I think darn tootin I have done it. Now for a fire tomorrow evening enjoying the new stone on the floor fronting the fireplace insert. Cheers. Equiz.

Regarding your computer problems.. Don’t know if you have Norton already installed but about a year ago I did the same thing as PMF did in his 18:55 post and un-installed the Norton, which was a pain in the butt by the way. I think the program is garbage. Then I installed AVG and also  the SuperAnti spyware like PMF did..both free editions and all is humming like a lark.. I’ve heard Trend Micro is good too if you wanna go with PM’s other suggestion.

I’ve never ever heard of the Lush anti virus programs that he was talking about so I cannot comment  on those .Anyways , good luck with the fix.

Obama’s Green Jobs Program: $135,294 Per Job

Obama says the grants will create 17,000 cleantech jobs. Well, get out your calculator. $2.3 billion for 17,000 jobs equals $135,294 per job. (And that’s not including the eventual interest on this deficit spending). Those green jobs had better pay well over six figures to justify that expense.

Not to worry, the administration has a plan to solve this, too. It wants Congress to approve another $5 billion for “tens of thousands” more green jobs.

prezone @ 11:35 - ancient computer

Thanks a million. That is truly amazing. There’s a video further down the page which shows the model working.

I see that it is linked to Archimedes, whom we all know to be the guy who found that lead had been added to what was supposed to be a pure gold crown. What’s the bet that he would have figured out how to identify tungsten-filed bars?

Wanka….

Been thinking about you often the last week or so. I’ve been freezing my ass off and I’m not that far north of ya!

Hope whatever you use for heat is working, FULLTIME!!!

Goldie……….

I am not sure what all problems you are having.  Were you able to run the free versions that we had suggested?  If you have had trouble running them, then do you have an anti-virus program on your computer, already?  If so, that program might be blocking those other programs from running.  I had that problem with Norton, although my local computer whiz said it was impossible.  I called Norton, but they wanted to charge me to “fix” the problem.  I did not understand why they would charge me to fix something their paid product was supposed to have prevented in the first place.  Their “foreign sounding ” rep just repeated the party line.  Finally, I decided to google Norton to look for tech sites to see what they would say.  The answer was that Norton was a PIA and difficult to get off my machine.  So, I deleted Norton and contacted them to cancel any future subs.

After I deleted Norton from my computer, I ran the free version of Trend Micro and the free version of superantispyware.  Found a few trojans and the computer ran great after that.  Before that, I was down to blue screens all of the time, the computer simply going to a blue screen at times, different icon changes until I re-booted as you say, etc.

Since that time my local computer whiz followed my lead and tossed out the idea to use Norton or MacAfee with all of his people.  We all use Trend Micro which is cheap and Susperantispyware which is super cheap.

BTW, I also hate LUSH PRODUCTS, too!  They are definitely for whimps and mounties.

Re: New Gold… I’ve held shares of Western Gold before the merger for years.  Now it’s a much better company.   When they can resolve their court issues for the Cerro San Pedro Mine I will feel a bit more secure.  This latest deal was a real coup for them… and they got to thumb their nose at Barrick as well.  Gotta like that!

Goldielocks - Arnie is bad bad bad

Thanks for the post on Arnie. I think the whining about cuts to entitlements will become a scream before long. Did you notice that while the article told us repeatedly how nasty Arnie was for cutting them, nowhere did it ask “How can we afford to keep them?”

Good luck with your computer. There are ways you can do it yourself, as several have said. But unless you have the time or experience it can be a royal pain.
