Equiz
Now before you think I am out of my everlovin mind ..let me explain….the reason I am razzing you and Goldballon in a way is because I want you to understand what may be coming…and that I am not a flaming racist……It is all about economics….and is that not what we speak about all day?
The reason I say economics is because the house values go down when too many minorities move into one area….and people get mad not because of the color of skin…but because they lose money on their houses….simple as that …well maybe not so simple…
I know …I lived it….I saw 2,000 families move out of St.Sabina Church in one summer …I have said that one way or another here before….yes yes the bloody battles under the viaducts were very real. but hearing the parents moan and actually cry over losing 10,000 dollars in value in one month was much deadlier…..can you imagine a 2 story solid brick [usually three bricks thick walls] 5 bedroom house with huge concrete front porch going for 17,000 in May of 1961 and then going for 6,000 in July of 1961…well that is exactly what happened after Billy Wehland got his brains blpwn out by a drive by in front of St.Sabina Church by opps…African Americans… on a lets show em were here drive.by….yep tensions were already high at this point in 61 at good old 78th and Throop….By the way who’s church is that anyway …ohhh yeah Barrack H. O…much later albeit but same joint……
Now what really happened was there was a knock at our door.one night in May…a friendly real estate guy came in and introduced himself…and then got into it …Mr.and Mrs Irish he said..I am here because you are the most looked upon people on May st. and I wanted to give you the opportunity to get a good price if you sell… Sell my dad said…what do you mean? well he says you know ..ahh the Wheland thing you know, that poor kid that got into a ahhh well an unfortunate incident at the church…My dad said ” unfortunate incident my arse he was gunned down by …….,well says the agent…that is why I am here …the neighborhood may ahhh be changing and if you sell first wy you would still get a good price….in fact as an inticement I have been authorized to give you up to 25,000 for this house ..my dad said scram it is only worth 17,000 and anyone offering me 25,000 is up to no good….
Well down the block the agent went…everyone looking out the window and calling the next friend down the line ….but in everyones mind was the question “Who would be the first to sell”?
Then it happened … a meeting was called …all the men went…and all swore they would not sell…they new it meant financial disaster for the whole area if May St. went .ahhh dark….. then it happened…the guy who called the solidarity meeting sold …but it was 2 in the morning when the movers came…only tell tale sign next morning was!!!!! The McGinty’s have no drapes.!!!!….THERE GONE!.!!! And one by one at an ever quickening .pace …May Aberdeen..Elizabeth Ada Troop.Loomis all went to the chopping block…Yep old McGinty got his 25,000 we heard but the rest got an average of 8k……we got lucky and sold for 12,000 …but understand Equiz….those people lost 10,000 and then had to purchase another home in the next parish or neighborhood west of St Sabina at 24,000……hmmm lost ten plus paid and extra ten hmmm that is 20,000 buckeroos in 1961…yer older than me ..I made 400 that summer sellin papers…how about you ..up there in Canada…at what 19 years old…what did you make 4,000 for the year….try getting a minus 20,000 handle put on ya wow..now that breeds some darn hot and deep feelins eh…
And beleive it or not some of my friends didn’t move far enough west….and it happened all over again in 3 years…as the cancer jumped Ashland Ave and moved west to Damen and then further south towards Jerimiha Wrights area now…all of Pullman neighborhood..so some got whacked with a 40,000 dollar hit .. now multiply that by 2,000 families and ya got an just under an 80 million dollar blast ..hell just St Sabina people…and a once vibrant church one of the richest in the Chicago Diocese with 25,000 people every Sunday at one of 8 masses upstairs in the Gothic 100ft.ceiling ornate church or in the smaller downstairs [but airconditined in 1957] extra church..well it fell into disrepair…..and I mean quick..seems the new parishoners were takers not givers…and I went in to look around in 1968 just for a look at old betsy..as we called her….yep…no heat for years cracked walls from freezing.. pidgieons crapping in the choir loft..broken stained glass windows 50 ft.high ..they only used the small underground church for years….and that looked like Stalingrad 1945…
And that is what Phoenix .is looking at and Dallas and Denver and Atlanta and San Fran and La and Bend Oregon and Vancouver if ya let it happen….remember there is a McGinty family .on every block…and a socialist in the pale house….from St Sabina..!!!!!!!!!.
Now I can and will lend a helping hand wherever I can..and when I shake your hand at a table I MEAN IT…black white or brown….but some people live different from us ..and ya can’t keep up high living standards if everyone ,..and I mean damm near everyone must put a shoulder to the task…just one too many takers and blammm down ya go…Which is exactly what is happening today…the” middle class” who shoulder all the tasks are getting overwhelmed…by design and by decaying outside influences and by just pure numbers…they are collapsing just as my old hood did…..
I cannot bear to see it again..so I have removed myself from the pain……But I don’t want anyone thinking it will not happen just because they wish it…I wished it…and I cried many nights over the loss of some friends..and my old haunts….but wishing and even fighting could not stop the human tide when it started to move….that is why I want you guys out of the way….I may be a smart ass sometimes but I just don’t want ya all to get blasted by these idiot politicians and the wave of takers coming your way….
The stone was set when Bill Daley was made a governor for JP Morgan in 2005 he influenced his brother the mayor to push for Big O..and the rest is history…Jesus I can’t tell ya no more..ok
I think gold will have a decent day …I do love ya all…
