haven’t thought of g-e in some time and i looked into the v-ster boppers site after you guys posted and low and behold i find 5 posts [not including the v-str’s] since 09:00 this morning. i almost started feeling sorry for the v-ster…..and then i fell out of my chair and snapped out of that momentary lapse quickly! wj

dimes and quarter bags at spot–halfs at 9cents over spot melt and walking liberties at 19cents over spot melt. 715 oz melt to a 1000 face bag. this is for the most part pre 1964 coinage however i say for the most part because a friend just aquired a bag of halves and it was dominantly 2003-04s kennedy 90% proofs in the bags that generally came with thoes coin sets of the time. good on him i say. but nevertheless silver is silver. cheers wj

 It looks like CNI is selling $1000 face bags (715oz.) for $28 per oz. $.48 over spot.

 They are buying same for $26.60 oz. $.92 under spot

 Definitely lower premiums.

as it is, maybe you can clean up on some. LP got me a whole pile whilst I was away, at below the price the local dealer was buying at, so it seems like it is unloved at the moment.
I think that low denomination stuff is great. If things get as tough as they might, folk will know just how much a sixpence or florin contains pretty quickly, and you’ll have a pile of readily fungible money.

At LP’s prompting I’ve been watching the local ‘junk silver’ market these last few days. This lot went through yesterday for NZ$1200. Spot value of conatined silver was $1340 at same time.

Refiners aren’t too interesed, only paying (theortically) $980 for the lot. Clearly not a popular way of buying silver, but it’s silver all the same. Or am I missing something here?

Any posters able to report what US junk silver is selling for, in relation to spot value of contained silver?

The U.S. government has notified Ottawa that the WikiLeaks website is preparing to release sensitive U.S. diplomatic files that could damage U.S. relations with allies around the world.

U.S. officials say the documents may contain accounts of compromising conversations with political dissidents and friendly politicians and could result in the expulsion of U.S. diplomats from foreign postings.

A Foreign Affairs spokeswoman said the U.S. ambassador to Canada, David Jacobson, has phoned Minister of Foreign Affairs Lawrence Cannon to inform him of the matter.

Melissa Lantsman said the Canadian Embassy in Washington is “currently engaging” with the U.S. State Department on the matter.

A State Department spokesman said Wednesday the release of confidential communications about foreign governments probably will erode trust in the United States as a diplomatic partner.

U.S. diplomatic outposts around the world have begun notifying other governments that WikiLeaks may release the documents in the next few days.  Article
